CO-PROMOTER RESIGNS

Leicester’s Co-promoter, Alan Jones, has resigned his position at the club, a post he has held for the last two seasons.

“This is not a snap decision as I have been considering my position for some time now but delayed making an announcement until after David’s (Hemsley) application to join the Elite League was approved and team building for the new season was well under way. The news could have been perceived as a negative and may have jeopardised David’s ambition of taking Leicester into the top tier of British Speedway and that would have been unfair on my part as I know it means so much to him. I informed David of my decision at the end of November and the reason for standing down is to enable me to claw back a chunk of personal time that has been lost through an increase in hours spent helping to administer the day to day running of a speedway club. It has been a hard decision to make but I will still be involved as the Club Press Officer and Editor of the Match Day Programme” commented Jones.

Jones represents a link between the old and new era of the Lions having been involved as a feature writer for the club before the demise of Leicester in 1983 and speedway correspondent for the Commercial Radio Station, Centre Radio.
